‘Quiet Moments’

‘Quiet Moments’ is a series of 15cm square oil paintings which were inspired by my visits to Charleston House and my interest in domestic interiors. I wanted a series of paintings which focused on those moments of quiet calm and reflection, the drinking of tea in the morning, your favourite cup, the moments of noticing the objects around us.

Developing my ideas during January 2022 with sketches and colour plans where I tried to capture the muted tones of the Bloomsbury group and the tranquil atmosphere of the farmhouse. I started by collecting together images, colours and composition ideas, then created a colour palette using burnt sienna, yellow ochre, cobalt blue, black, white and raw umber. I wanted a warm palette with a glow and this started with an underpainting of translucent burnt sienna then layers of paint mixed from my colour palette.

I have currently completed 10 paintings and I’m still going! Although I thought I would produce a series may be six to ten I have been surprised at how this collection has developed and I’m still exploring ideas. I’m particularly enjoying the warmth, feelings of space and peaceful moments they have created for me in such small paintings.

This collection of paintings were released in February 2022 and a selection will be shown at the ’Under the Rainbow’ exhibition at the Bluewater Shopping Centre from February 26th - April and at Greenfinch Gallery in Ticehurst.
