Spring Light
Sold by Greenfinch Gallery Ticehurst
The inspiration for this painting is contrasts. The starting point was the small jug on the top left which belonged to my Grandfather, it was always on the chest of drawers in his bedroom and fills me with memories. The daffodils reminded me of him and how far away he feels and so the composition is based around this feeling. I began with an underpainting in Alizarin crimson and violet which contrasts with the yellow daffodils and green leaves. I particularly love the way the crimson still peaks through in areas giving the colour palette a real zing. The paint on the table is lovely and thick but there are still areas of translucency which creates such wonderful optics.
This painting is oil with a cold wax finish on board. Unframed it measures 50cm x 60cm and it is framed in a off white wooden framed 7cm wide the finished size with frame is 64cm x 74cm.
